Tonight we want to talk about the health benefits of “me time” and taking the time to do a little something for yourself. When I think about me time, I think time spent away from stressors such as work, school, friends, family, etc. Sometimes you need to take a step back and allow yourself to recover and ready yourself for the rest of the week. Here are our suggestions on how to destress your Wednesday and get over the hump into Thursday!
1. Turn off the Technology: take time out of your busy routine in order to unplug from the rest of the world and allow yourself some alone time. Scientists link modern technology to decreased production of melatonin and sleep loss. (Huffington Post) In addition, people linked to their cell phones have seen rise in mental health issues such as depressive symptoms and fatigue. In the theme of #winddownwednesday we urge you to take some time away from your favorite screens and let your mind rest!
2. Organize Your Life: While taking time away from your favorite screen, do take time to organize. Whether it be cleaning or donating, there are a million ways to take control of the clutter (maybe chaos) around you and make your life feel a little more put together. This may be less soothing in the beginning, but the results of a more organized space will have you ready to conquer the rest of your long week!
3. Get Bubbly (in a bath): Get your bath a little more fancy than just water with the use of Epsom salts. These can be purchased in salt form or made into bath bombs for more fun! You can buy Epsom salts at most grocery stores or Walmarts. Amazon sells my personal favorite for stress relief and has matching bubble bath for use. 4. Get Hydrated: Whilst sitting in water, your stress levels may enjoy you also sipping on some water! When you become stressed out, you begin to become dehydrated. Taking time to drink more water and hydrate yourself, may just begin to help you wash away your stress.
5. Color: There is a reason coloring is no longer just for kids! Adult coloring books have had their time in the spotlight as a major trend for relaxation. For generations, the use of knitting for repetitive, soothing motions was used for destressing. Now, even adults can pick up a coloring book to show their creative side in a way that is a little different than knitting.
